REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 2+ years commercial insurance experience
- R.I.B.O designation required; C.A.I.B or CIP would be an asset

Senior Director, Pricing and Underwriting

Reporting to the Vice-President, Commercial Lines, you will need to be strategic, innovative, and collaborative, offering their expertise as well as leading the overall development and ongoing management for our Actuarial and Corporate Underwriting Departments for the Province of Ontario.
In addition, you will organize and oversee activities related to the pricing of all automotive lines. Work collaboratively with colleagues in Ontario and in other provinces to set rate levels and segmentation for commercial products in Ontario and will be responsible for managing the process of accepting complex risks for commercial business.
- Sustaining rate to ensure profitability, retention, and growth of the business for personal and commercial automotive lines as well as commercial property and liability insurance
- Develops and supervises the various actuarial studies required to establish the level of these rates
- Organizes pricing committees, prepares recommendations regarding pricing policies, rate changes
- Submits applications for acceptance of rates and underwriting rules to regulatory authorities (FSRA)
- Follows the evolution of the market and the movement of competitors
- Ensures that the rates to be implemented can be supported by the market and will meet the company’s growth and profitability objectives
- Monitors the results obtained after their implementation in terms of sales, retention, and profitability
- Conducting various impact studies
- Analyzes the impact of various legal or other changes on the company’s results
- Evaluates the impact of changes in underwriting and claims settlement policies on the company’s data and results

Role and Responsibilities:
- Confirm valid coverage
- Investigate liability, serious injuries & exposure
- Investigate serious injuries and exposure
- Provide instruction and direction to external vendors i.e.: independent adjusters, legal counsel, engineers
- Calculate ultimate probable exposure and reserve accordingly
- Maintain a diary system to monitor files
- Ensure files are up to date with BI worksheet, case law, medical and liability information
- Report any serious injuries to Manager
- Mentor and coach junior adjusters
- Prepare Major Loss/Reinsurance Reports and participate in Claims Committee process
- Comply with service standards as outlined in the claims manual
- Participate actively in settlement initiatives along with both private and mandatory mediations
- Any other duties as required
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills:
- Detail oriented and well-organized individual
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Travel to mediations/pre-trials/trials is required, when not virtual
- Superb interpersonal skills and leadership qualities/potential
- Work well individually or as a part of a team
- Computer literacy with strong working knowledge of Microsoft programs
Education and Experience:
- CIP designation or working towards obtaining designation
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience adjusting CGL & BI claims
- CGL experience including a strong background in coverage (duty to defend vs. indemnify), municipality losses, construction wrap up, product liability, occupier’s liability, and environmental losses is preferable
- Knowledge of regulatory and contractual obligations, medical terminology, vocational rehabilitation concepts and dispute resolution practice
- Experience with internal and external audits
