You will be joining one of Canada’s largest insurance companies with amazing growth and development opportunities.
Responsibilities:
- Underwrite Builders Risk insurance, provide specialized solutions, experience, financial capacity and underwriting flexibility to meet the insurance needs of commercial contractors and developers with ongoing construction activity.
- Maintain in-force policies and ensure all policies are issued within service standards with the appropriate wordings, schedules, and certificates attached
- Record underwriting information for the purpose of evaluation, assessment, and profitability;
- Assist with training and coaching of other staff as required;
- Market our insurance products, solutions and services
- Foster good broker/ client relationships with face to face meetings and telephone communication
Required Experience, Qualifications and Expectations:
- Minimum 1 years of relevant underwriting experience
- Strong oral and written communication skills and superb time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work well independently as well as part of a team.
- Accountability, customer-centric thinking, teamwork and a commitment to excellence.
- Enjoy working with our partners to establish professional relationships to achieve our growth and profit goals.
- Professional, friendly, and courteous in all interactions with external and internal customers.
- Computer literacy is required with working knowledge of Microsoft products and a comfort level with a company operating system.
- A University/College Diploma or equivalent is required or completion of or working towards CIP/FCIP designation

- Handle risks located throughout Canada with carrier and Lloyds of London partners
- Serve as an internal resource and product expert
- Travel and entertain clients and prospects
- See opportunities to access and cultivate new markets and products
- Manage relationships with retail brokers
- Develop and execute marketing plan to drive new business, including in-person visits, networking, marketing and distribution of marketing materials
- Underwrite new and renewal business based on underwriting authority and guidelines
- Participate in a highly lucrative sales incentive plan
- Evaluate, classify, and rate each risk to determine acceptability, coverage, and pricing
- Apply appropriate quality underwriting and risk selection on quoted business
- Monitor key metrics, such as, new business hit ratio, renewal retention ratio, premium growth, and loss ratio, formulating corrective action where necessary
- Use cutting-edge technology to deliver high quality service to agents and agencies
- Mentor and train Underwriters and Assistant Underwriters, as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 5-10 years underwriting experience, preferably significant experience in Financial Lines
- CIP, RPLU or equivalent preferred

Special Risks Underwriter – Environmental
Comma Recruitment are looking for an experienced and talented Special Risks Underwriter with 3+ years experience and expertise within Environmental Underwriting, experience with Pollution or Construction an asset.
- Develop and execute marketing plan to drive new and renewal business, including in-person visits and distribution of marketing materials for insurance company partners
• Evaluate, classify, and rate each risk to determine acceptability, coverage, and pricing
• Develop and submit underwriting referrals, where required.
• Monitor key metrics, such as, new business hit ratio, renewal retention ratio, premium growth, and loss ratio, formulating corrective action where necessary
• Mentor and train Assistant Underwriters as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:• Strong background and connections in Environmental Underwriting
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Minimum 3 years of multi-line underwriting experience, excess & surplus experience an advantage
• Strong sales and marketing skills a must, business acumen, interest in continued education and professional development - Insurance license, CIP or comparable designations preferred
