Job Responsibilities
- Underwrite new and renewal professional lines business for company partners based on underwriting authority and contract guidelines and produce business in assigned territories
- Strong aptitude for professional liability, miscellaneous E&O, technology E&O and Cyber liability; experience in other professional liability lines (A&E, Lawyers, D&O etc.) an asset
- Maintain the long-term profitability of a significant portfolio of accounts; the ability to successfully negotiate terms, conditions and pricing to achieve new business, renewal and profitability targets
- Develop and execute marketing plans with target brokers to drive new business and achieve retention goals
- Understand and leverage the breadth of products and markets, develop and submit underwriting referrals, where required.
- Develop and maintain a professional relationship with brokers and/or clients to enhance understanding of the target market and to contribute to quality service, problem solving, and risk selection
- Support in the development of new professional liability products by leveraging strong market and product knowledge
- Develop and execute marketing plan to drive new business
- Monitor key metrics, such as, new business hit ratio, renewal retention ratio, premium growth, and loss ratio, formulating corrective action where necessary
- Mentor and train junior underwriters, as needed
- Enter computer data of quotations, binders and related support documents
- Other tasks as assigned
Qualifications
- 2 years or more of professional lines underwriting experience
- Provincial License or eligibility for obtaining, CIP, FCIP or comparable designations an asset
- Proven underwriting experience and the ability to make informed underwriting decisions in-house
- Demonstrated proficiency in sales and marketing
- Proven organization skills and ability with a strong attention to detail
- Strong broker relationships
- Ability to work independently, but also be a team player

Bilingual Short Term Disability Examiner
Comma Recruitment are looking for a talented Bilingual STD Claims Examiner, reporting to the Manager Life and Disability and working closely with the Team Lead, the incumbent reviews, assesses and processes claims for applicable benefits using the technical knowledge obtained from the policies, procedural manuals, and industry and government communications.
Working in a team environment you will utilize your strong verbal and written communication skills when interacting with clients, claimants, and all relevant stakeholders.
The incumbent must be able to work independently with little supervision, possess the ability to distinguish priorities and adapt well to change. The individual must work well under pressure, maintain production requirements and must be willing to work overtime as required.
The individual will ensure all claims are processed in date order, by automatically assisting other examiners in the processing of their assigned plan(s) when their own client base is in good order and will liaise in a professional manner with insurance agencies, doctors, trustees, members, management, lawyers and all other stakeholders, ensuring that only allowable information is released to recognized recipients and that all information is released in writing.
You will be required to process and manage Disability claims, establishing eligibility, calculation of earnings and benefit levels, along with obtaining the necessary medical evidence.
You will ensure all necessary documentation is provided to the insurance carrier in order for them to process any claims submitted to them for adjudication.
The successful candidate will maintain daily production requirements as determined by the Manager and keep the Manager aware of problems or areas of concern that require special attention. Confidentiality must be maintained over client and corporate records and medical claims information.
You will be required to operate a claims payment database as well as able to perform manual calculations. Following training period, a minimum of 95% accuracy is required.
Success in this role would be the mastery of the processes you touch on a day-to-day basis and your ability to keep abreast of industry and government requirements.
Qualifications
- Bilingual (French and English)
- Minimum two years related experience. Must have experience adjudicating complex disability claims cases, in a group insurance environment
- Experience adjudicating disability claims in a Unionized or Multi-employer background is an asset
- Must possess excellent customer service skills, be team oriented and cooperative with co-workers, consultants and departments
- Excellent analytical and letter writing skills, with attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task and adapt well to change in a busy office environment
- Ability to work well under pressure, meet deadlines and adhere to departmental standards.

Working closely with internal teams, you will be accountable for assessing, evaluating and making decisions about risks for both new and existing customers.
Responsibilities & what you’ll be doing:
- Quote new business by assessing the risk, pricing, choosing the appropriate company, preparing final quote and sending it to the broker;
- Work with Hospitality team members with an eye toward writing and retaining profitable business, Net Income/Profitability above Gross Written Premium
- Write new business by following up on quotes, sending binders, obtaining all required original documents and signatures and issuing the policy;
- Issue renewals by re-underwriting with up-dated information obtained from Broker and then pricing, offering and issuing the policy;
- Produce policy changes and endorsement by underwriting, pricing and issuing policies;
- Establish and maintain professional working relationships with companies and brokers through telephone conversations and one-to-one meetings;
- Overall administration of assigned accounts from submission to expiration;
- Corresponding directly with brokers and other external contacts;
- Collaborating and corresponding verbally and in writing with internal support teams;
- Performing quality control of rating, coding, and issuance output to ensure accuracy of work (e.g. exposure bases, limits, coverage extensions, modifications, data entry, etc.);
- Assist in developing, training and mentoring junior underwriter(s) and technical assistant(s);
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

- 3+ years of experience in Hospitality underwriting and 5+ years of commercial underwriting, Casualty;
- CIP Certification or equivalent
