OPERATIONS MANAGER

Comma Recruitment are currently looking for an Operations Manager.  You will plan, direct and coordinate the operations of a medical branch that offers assessments for insurance companies. The Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring and improving the performance, productivity, efficiency and profitability of departmental and organizational operations through the provision of effective methods and strategies.

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Coordination and Supervision – Coordinate, manage and monitor the workings of various departments in the organization.
  • Financial – Review financial statements and data. Utilize financial data to improve profitability. Prepare and control operational budgets. Control inventory. Plan effective strategies for the financial well being of the company.
  • Best Practices – Improve processes and policies in support of organizational goals. Formulate and implement departmental and organizational policies and procedures to maximize output. Monitor adherence to rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Human Resources – Plan the use of human resources. Organize recruitment and placement of required staff. Establish organizational structures. Delegate tasks and accountabilities. Establish work schedules. Supervise staff. Monitor and evaluate performance.
  • Communication – Monitor, manage and improve the efficiency of support services such as IT, HR, Accounts and Finance. Facilitate coordination and communication between support functions.
  • Sales, Marketing and Customer Service – Manage customer support. Plan and support sales and marketing activities.
  • Strategic Input – Liaison with top management. Assist in the development of strategic plans for operational activity. Implement and manage operational plans.

Education and Experience

  • Degree in business administration, commerce, management or similar, or equivalent Industry leadership experience
  • Knowledge and experience in organizational effectiveness and operations management
  • Knowledge of business and management principles and practices
  • Knowledge of financial and accounting, budgeting and costing
  • Knowledge of human resource principles and practices
  • Knowledge of project management principles and practices, Strong IT skills

Intermediate Bilingual Personal Lines Underwriter

Utilizing underwriting skills and judgment to process and underwrite moderately complex files by recognizing, evaluating and minimizing risk, establishing rating criteria and determining policy terms and conditions according to our auto and property underwriting guidelines and within binding authority limits.

  • Respond and fulfill existing and prospective customers’ insurance needs.
  • Provide expert customer service and an exceptional client experience.
  • Communicate with customers in a timely and effective manner.
  • Qualify clients and ensure that sufficient underwriting information is obtained to assess exposure, ensure risk eligibility and rating adequacy.
  • Process applications, order and review various reports and underwriting questionnaires to determine degree of risk and acceptability of risk. Secure additional information if needed.
  • Recommend insurance coverage and suggest/promote alternative products or services.
  • Underwrite moderately complex personal lines insurance risks (broker & direct) and process new business transactions, endorsements, renewals and cancellations. Assess and evaluate risks in order to accept, modify, or reject insurance contracts in accordance with company objectives, underwriting policies, standards & procedures, applicable laws & regulations, and within established authority level, in order to develop and retain profitable business.
  • Review all relevant claims reports, secure additional information as required, and take appropriate underwriting actions to ensure company standards are upheld.
  • Provide technical and underwriting advice to team members.
  • Maintain insurance licenses in all provinces where we write business.

We’re looking for someone with:

A College Diploma and / or working towards a Chartered Insurance Professional designation

At least 1 year of experience in a similar role

Bilingual in written and spoken English & French.

Excellent written and verbal skills in order to respond to inquiries or complaints.

Knowledge of personal lines insurance guidelines and products.

Computer literate with good keyboard skills, detail oriented and multi tasking.

Demonstrate efficiency and priority management skills to meet service standards.

Ability to work in and support a team-based environment.

The Account Manager is responsible for overall accountability to the client for their insurance account.  Working with the assigned Account Executive (Producer), the Account Manager should be in a position to assist and work with all  aspects of the accounts assigned, and liaise with the key decision makers and information providers on the account to ensure the relationship is perceived as high value added.
Responsibilities include:

  • Attend information gathering meetings, and contacting the key information provider and/or decision maker at the clients by phone, fax, e-mail, and the like.
    • Once the account is written the Account Manager will take over the handling of the account and be involved in the preparation of the Binders and Certificates, addressing any subject ivies attached to renewal.
    • Take overall responsibility for policy service between policy anniversary dates.
    • Liaise with key decision makers and information providers on an account, and will continue to be positioned by the organization as the key resource to the account.
    • The Account Manager will be the “first call” service contact for each of the assigned accounts and will be positioned as such by the organization and the producer.
    • Take ultimate responsibility for the gathering of information necessary to generate the renewal proposal.
    • Review the renewal proposal with the producer to ensure that it meets the producer’s perception of the client’s expectations.
    • Marketing responsibilities including preparation of the Marketing Submission or ensuring their assistant prepares the Marketing Submission.
    • Obtaining updates from the client for the Submission in conjunction with the Account Executive.
    • Involvement in weekly Marketing meetings with the Marketing department to monitor the progress of the renewals.
    • Obtain additional information as required by the Marketing department.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1 year of commercial lines experience preferred.
    • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and time management skills.
    • Excellent teamwork and team building skills.
    • Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with underwriters, key business partners, and customers.
