Technical Claims Specialist –
Litigation, CGL, E&O, D&O Claims
Comma Recruitment are looking for a Technical Claims Specialist, responsible for providing efficient and prompt investigation, evaluation, negotiation, and settlement of larger size and/or increased complexity claims in accordance with corporate guidelines and best practices.
Responsibilities
- Confirm coverage, investigate, negotiate settlement and document claims of larger size and complexity in accordance with established guidelines.
- Review available information and establish, maintain and recommend appropriate reserve, payment, and or settlement.
- Ensure the accurate and efficient payment of claims.
- Identify fraud indicators
- Prepare and summarize files for litigation and mediation/arbitration.
- Establish and monitor litigation disposition plans, completed by counsel, to ensure claims file handling strategies are being followed. Direct activities of defence counsel to ensure files are handled within litigation guidelines.
- Establish and monitor litigation expense budgets with counsel and ensure that litigation expenses follow budgets.
- Participate in disposition programs (ie. Settlement conferences, committee file review, mediations, arbitrations) as required.
- Adhere to service standards by communicating effectively with all parties involved and develop relationships with other departments in order to meet business goals.
- Provide superior customer service / communication with insured.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education and / or equivalent on the job experience
- Minimum 5-10 years of casualty claims adjusting with litigation and CGL experience. Experience with E&O, D&O and Liability Claims.
- Actively pursuing CIP/FCIP designation
- Working knowledge of the company principles and practices related to claims settlement, policy wordings, insurance contracts, fraud investigations, serious losses and coverage questions.
- Ability to demonstrate patience, empathy and understanding in dealings with customers and provide prompt, efficient, and courteous service to all parties involved.
- Ability to assess liability and understand case law developments in the jurisdiction.
- Demonstrated negotiation skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, investigative, and decision-making skills.
- Able to plan, organize, and manage multiple demands and changing priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to work well as a team player or independent contributor; Self-motivated.
- Strong leadership skills and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication (both oral and written) skills to explain processes and terms.
