Job summary
Experienced Buyer required to source raw components in a busy manufacturing environment.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage suppliers for assigned portfolio, including but not limited to, finished goods, raw materials, component parts and production services while establishing/maintaining quality, service and cost benchmarks
- Analyze requisitions, specifications and appropriate system reports to determine required quantities and delivery dates and communicate technical and logistical requirements to vendors
- Manage existing outside processes/suppliers, issue Purchase Orders as required by Kanban and MRP/MPS reports
- Negotiate prices and Terms & Conditions of purchase orders ensuring compliance with Victaulic contracts, policies and guidelines
- Prepare requests for proposals and quotation, analyzing and evaluating multi-supplier responses
- Track deliveries for material and liaison with appropriate internal and external resources as required to meet established requirement commitments
- Resolve problems and discrepancies with quality, delivery dates, quantity, and invoicing of purchased commodities
- Respond to expedite requests for related portfolio items and provide as applicable delivery status and status information
- Implement strategy that reduces cost, improves quality and delivery performance and improves Victaulic competitive position
- Maintain, re-evaluate, and expand qualified reliable sources of supply and secondary sources as a back-up
- Improve vendor processing by restructuring supplier relationships and material flow
- Assist Commodity Managers and Regional Sourcing in the monitoring and maintenance of material requirements
- Identify and implement continuous improvements and year-over-year cost and inventory reductions
- As required develop and present recommended Supply Chain solutions in a clear, concise and effective manner to Leadership, in an effort to gain understanding and support
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal customers and key suppliers
- Participate / lead special projects in sourcing area
- Other tasks as assigned by Manager
Education and Skill Requirement:
- Minimum of a post-secondary degree or diploma in Purchasing or related field of study, or relevant practical experience
- Minimum 3-5 years experience in Purchasing, Material Control, or related fields
- Experience in Lean manufacturing, distribution and logistics – Supplier integration in total company supply chain
- Understanding of customs compliance requirements – NAFTA and importation rules for globally sourced vendors
- Strong leadership skills
- Articulate with excellent oral and written communications skills
- Strong negotiation skills an asset
- Willing to make infrequent overnight travel
- Strong analytical problem-solving ability
- Exposure/background with machined steel components an asset
- Demonstrated knowledge of strategic sourcing process, tools and their application in restructuring indirect purchases of a multi-plant manufacturing business
- Ability to participate/lead cross functional teams toward common goals and manage working relationships with Sales, Customer Service, Distribution, Plant Operations and the customer to optimize the distribution system while enhancing customer service
