Comma Recruitment are looking for a Senior Marine Underwriter with 5+ years progressive experience. You will be responsible for managing the underwriting within the marine lines unit, specifically for an assigned group of brokers within the Ontario region. Senior Underwriters are responsible for evaluating & selecting profitable new risks, based on our underwriting appetite and principles, while developing and maintaining value-driven relationships with brokers.
• Responsible for the successful evaluation, selection, negotiation, and pricing for assigned policies in order to ensure a profitable book of business within established underwriting authority.
• Develop and maintain a professional relationship with brokers and/or customers to enhance understanding of the target market and to contribute to quality service, problem solving, and risk selection.
• Understand and apply best business practices towards compliance, internal control and operational risk controls in accordance to national standards and regulatory standards and policies.
• To monitor business performance, review progress and enable timely corrective or other appropriate actions to be taken with our partners.
• Develop and maintain a knowledge and understanding of company operations and procedures.
• Mentor and train less experienced underwriters and support staff.
• Work collaboratively on special projects and assignments when required.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Post-secondary school education and/or equivalent on the job experience.
• Minimum 5-7 years experience in the Canadian Marine industry.
• Broad knowledge and understanding of underwriting discipline and pricing models.
• Working knowledge of company underwriting philosophy, policy contracts, rating programs, risk information sources, underwriting/technical manual information, statuary constraints, and computer workflow procedures.
• Ability to work within and adapt to PC oriented environments, including familiarity with e-mail and Internet skills. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Completion of the CIP/FCIP designation.
• Fluently bilingual (English / French) is a definite asset

Comma Recruitment are looking for a senior commercial underwriter with technical expertise on complex specialty risks. You will be responsible for the underwriting and service of accounts and complex exposures in the consumer warranty and guarantee sector.
You will evaluate, select, and establish/negotiate proper pricing levels for risks in order to ensure a profitable book of business within established underwriting guidelines. Senior Underwriters are responsible for identifying, investigating, and developing new business/expansion opportunities.
1. Ensure quality risk selection and pricing to maximize underwriting profitability and increase market share in the consumer warranty/guarantee and related products area.
2. Responsible for the input of all account information and data to the Specialty Risk system.
3. Develop customized Work/Excel reports to record, monitor and analyze premium, claim and security data for assigned accounts.
4. Assist in the drafting and analyzing of account agreements and forms.
5. Monitor on a monthly basis the financial performance of assigned accounts.
6. Ensure monthly receipt of required reports and security from clients and external partners.
7. Assist with introduction and communication of pricing, coverage and/or product changes in a timely manner.
8. Participate in the development of business plans to contribute to corporate objectives.
9. Act as a resource as required, making use of knowledge of territory, broker, market, and interpersonal and technical skills.
10. Identify, investigate, and develop new business/expansion opportunities.
11. Monitor trends and developments, identifying areas of concern regarding loss ratios, risk trends, or other discrepancies and recommend remedial solutions to management.
12. Develop and maintain a knowledge and understanding of company operations and procedures, including demographic, economic, and social characteristics to increase market share.
13. Maintain knowledge of industry trends, developments, and regulatory changes.

• Post-secondary education or equivalent combination of education and experience (Business or related discipline).
• Working knowledge of GAP, replacement cost, Etching, brown/white goods and other related consumer products
• Working knowledge of underwriting philosophy, policy contracts, rating programs, risk information sources, underwriting/technical manual information, statuary constraints, and computer workflow procedures.
• Working knowledge of other functional areas (i.e. Claims, Risk Management, Premium Accounting, etc).

Experience and Qualifications required
