Senior Commercial Lines Underwriter – GTA
Comma Recruitment are looking for a Senior Commercial Lines Underwriter with expertise in Commercial Auto. Joining a successful team in a fast paced sales focused environment.
Analyzing requests, assessing risk and negotiating, quoting and handling complex risks and large files. Underwriting business within authority limits.
Promoting products and services and assist brokers in the region with underwriting and rating guidelines both by phone/email and visits.
Provide technical support to brokers and other team members in order to increase efficiency by answering their questions or by helping them analyze certain risks.
Working within a senior team to assist adjusting of underwriting policies and procedures according to market requirements.
Negotiate reinsurance placements by communicating with reinsurance companies.
Play a key part in underwriting committees and participate in special projects.
Comma Recruitment are looking for 5+ years of Commercial Lines Underwriting experience, with great knowledge of Commercial Fleet.
University degree / CIP preferred
Must exhibit a sound knowledge of commercial auto business, including fleet specific.
Demonstrate the ability to handle complex risks.
Maintain an expert and current understanding of all relevant Commercial Underwriting Guides and instructions.
Possess the ability to negotiate and sell effectively with brokers and reinsurers.

You will be responsible for underwriting and managing a portfolio of brokers and insureds focused on the private and non-profit sector within Financial and Professional Services.
Utilizing effective business development strategies to reach profitability, growth and retention targets, consistent with overall business line objectives.
You will report to the Manager, Corporate Management Liability and will primarily be responsible for underwriting and developing a book of Financial and Professional Services insurance products including Directors and Officers Liability, Employment Practices Liability, Fiduciary Liability, Cyber Liability, Crime, Kidnap and Ransom, Miscellaneous Professional Liability and Identity Theft.
Working with your designated Underwriting Assistant you will be responsible for the full life cycle of accounts (including prospecting, submission, pre-quote, bind and renewal activities). Strategically underwrite and price accounts in support of growth and profitability goals for you, your team and your line of business.
Initiate and lead an effective broker business development plan that reflects local market conditions.
Implement effective business development strategies , develop and maintain positive and productive broker relationships.
Assist in development of Trainees, Account Underwriters, and less experienced Account Executives.
Act as a technical resource for less experienced staff and focus on larger strategic broker relationships and more complex accounts
Comma Recruitment require a minimum of three years experience in Underwriting, ideally in a similar role, you should be a :

Team Leader – Business System Analysts and System Testers
Comma Recruitment are looking for a talented Team Leader responsible for the supervision of Business System Analysts and Business Systems Testers in the Operations & Planning Team.
1. Supervision of direct reports on the team including: recruiting, performance management, productivity, professional development, mentoring and coaching, and employee satisfaction. Ensures employees are kept informed of updates, changes and new direction through regular team meetings.
2. Co-ordinate resources to ensure adequate support of all regional program initiatives to deliver timely completion of project deliverables and maintenance of internal and external Rate Systems.
3. Continuously striving for efficiency improvement by ensuring the most effective and efficient use of testing processes, resources and tools. Managing defects and minimizing errors and manual workarounds in production environments. Recommends changes in procedures to Manager, Personal Operations and implement changes as required
4. Ensures that established Metrics targets are monitored and objectives are met: Helpdesk mailbox service, new defects, post production warranty, test coverage, test completion target dates.
Responsibilities
Responsible for managing and providing support to the testing team on a day-to-day basis in order to ensure resources are adequate and deliverables are met.
Work with various departments to improve systems by managing and coordinating phases of the implementation of requirements and projects in order to meet department and company objectives.
1. Manage the Testing team including testing tools and testing processes. Supervise the work of the team and assist in developing recommendations to improve the team’s efficiency. Ensure resources are adequate, and deliverables are met in the appropriate timelines.
2. Define and implement the role testing has within the organizational structure.
3. Assist in developing and following up on the budget and in planning resources and growth.
4. Participate and provide approval for promotion of major changes to production, assessing whether the quality of the change is acceptable, the amount of testing is appropriate for the complexity of problems, and consider the impact to internal/external users.
5. Act as a resource person for internal clients/colleagues by answering questions on systems, attending technical meetings, and may sit on committees.
6. Manage priorities for analysis and production promotion of systems. Schedule all activities, requirement analysis, and testing phases based on the availability and specialization of team members, and on implementation dates scheduled.
Qualifications
•Post Secondary education or equivalent work experience
•Completion of / or commitment to achieve CIP
•5 years of personal lines underwriting distribution experience or relevant IT experience within insurance industry
•Sound knowledge of systems development and SDLC (Requirement definition and User Acceptance testing)
•Must possess well developed oral and written communication
•Excellent judgment, analytical, interpersonal and team building skills
•Prior team leader or supervisory experience would be beneficial
