Bilingual- Assistant Manager, Underwriting

Comma Recruitment are looking for a talented bilingual (English and French) underwriter with experience underwriting accident, disability, life and health policies.

Ability to train, mentor and coach staff along with technical underwriting experience.

  • Provide ongoing training, coaching and supervision to underwriting staff members.
  • Implementing and maintaining department policies, guidelines, procedures and reports
  • Manages the transaction service levels of the Underwriting department
  • Develop, co-ordinate and conduct the appropriate technical training for all underwriting employees.
  • Reporting system challenges, testing and coordinating resources as appropriate
  • Assisting employees as the key individual providing support for escalated customer or business issues
  • Subject matter expert for identifying and resolving customer related issues and concerns
  • Partners in the Underwriting file audit process with Manager
  • Identifying and implementing opportunities for efficiencies
  • Assist Manager to prepare and/or facilitate monthly/quarterly team and operational meetings
  • Work with the department to keep procedures current as work processes change and evolve



  • 3-5 years progressive underwriting experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English and French required
  • Ability to motivate and manage staff and drive teamwork towards a common objective.
  • Education/knowledge specific to medical terminology and risk assessment.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment
  • Willingness to embrace change and implement new approaches and ideas.
  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
  • Strong on execution including project management fundamentals
  • Communications – clear, thorough, timely
  • Experience speaking in front of groups.
  • Sound morals, ethic and confidentiality with ability to develop trusting and effective working relationships with peers and employees.
  • Technically savvy and efficient with Microsoft Office and operating systems
